FIELD: electrical engineering that may be used in power lines for reactive power correction. SUBSTANCE: saturable reactor has magnetic system with intermediate legs, yokes, and two side yokes. Control windings disposed on intermediate legs are connected to regulated dc voltage supply. Power windings are disposed around two adjacent legs carrying control windings. Radially cut annular shunts are disposed between ends of windings and yokes. Each of them is wound on electric steel strips and has inserts of electric steel sheets whose width equals that of strip. Inserts are fitted between its layers. Annular shunts have their shape following that of cross-section of winding ends protruding beyond magnetic system outline. Ratio of minimal cross-sectional area of steel in each annular shunt to that of steel in each intermediate leg is between 1/8 and 1/4. Some portions of magnetic system yokes have different sectional areas of steel. Sectional area S of yoke parts disposed between adjacent legs enclosed by power winding and sectional area Sst of leg steel are interrelated by expression S:Sst = 1,5÷2.
