FIELD: medicine, microbiology. SUBSTANCE: nutrient medium used for isolation of Klebsiella is constructed on the base of beef-extract agar and lactose. For inhibition of accompanying microflora and detection of colonies the medium contains safranine T in the following ratio of components: safranine T, 1.0-3.0 g; lactose, 5,0-15,0 g and beef- extract agar in the melted state - up to 1 l of medium, pH value of medium is 7.2-7.4. The use of nutrient medium with safranine T as inhibitor of foreign microflora and as an indicator of Klebsiella colonies provides the enhancement of sensitivity of medium.
