DEVICE FOR STRIPPING OUTER INSULATION OFF ELECTRIC WIRES Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: electrical engineering; tools and devices used to prepare wires and cables for wiring in electrical equipment manufacture. SUBSTANCE: device for stripping outer sheath off stranded electric wires, such as those of grade BIFEZ, has case accommodating knife, members restricting cutting depth of knife, and wire holding members. Novelty is that case has port for passing chips outside and that knife is installed in chip escape port in inclined position along wire feed path. Face blade of knife is disposed flatwise and crosswise of wire axis jutting above supporting surface through length equal to thickness of wire outer insulation. Supporting surface in the form of tooth with rounded-off top is formed by wall extension of chip escape port. Case is mounted in overhung position for easy rotation on hollow shaft; wire holding member is made in the form of wire feeder hinged in trough-shaped hold-down piece body provided with projection that clamps wire to supporting surface with aid of spring-loaded camshaped dog. Proposed device provides for nicking sheath by chipping and automatic rotation of knife about stranded wire such as grade BIFT3 being fed. Device can be used as manual tool or as stationary one that starts operating as wire is fed.
