FIELD: removal of halogen-bearing compounds from gases or liquids. SUBSTANCE: the invention presents a method of removal, decrease and-or elimination of halogen-bearing compounds, and, in particular, removal of the chlorinated compounds contained in a gas or in a liquid, which is exposed to interaction with a gas or a liquid with a composition received by sedimentation on aluminum oxide of at least one compound containing at least one element picked up from alkali metals, with following calcination of the aluminum oxide at the temperature of at least 600 C. When at least one compound contains at least one element picked up from alkaline-earth and rare-earth metals, and this compound is settled on the aluminum oxide, then the temperature of calcination of the aluminum oxide is equal at least to 500 C. EFFECT: the invention allows to reduce formation of halogen-bearing oligomers. 16 cl, 2 tbl
