FIELD: metallurgy; particularly, production of steel in electric arc furnace. SUBSTANCE: method of steel melting in electric arc furnace incorporates steps of charging metal-based charge, its heating and melting with utilization of electric arcs power and power of flame of gas- oxygen burners; flow rate of oxygen in burners is being increased in the course of melting with respect to theoretically required flow rate of oxygen for fuel consumption. In the course of melting of metal-based charge power is supplied to electric arcs with specific rating from 300 to 450 kW.h/t of melt. To gas- oxygen burners power is supplied at rating being within the range from 7 to 23 % of specific rating of power supplied to electric arcs. In so doing during melting an additional cyclic increase of oxygen content in flame of gas-oxygen burners with respect to its initial amount takes place. Gas-oxygen burners are switched on after supply of power to electric arcs with rating of 5-15 kW. h/t of melt. Oxygen content in flame is being increased after supply of power to electric arcs at specific rating of 20-45 kW.h/t of melt. Such a mode is maintained during supply of power to electric arcs with specific rating of 40-70 kW.h/t of melt. Subsequent cycles of increasing oxygen content in flame are realized after next power supply to electric arcs at specific rating of 20-45 kW.h/t of melt. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of steel melting process owing to acceleration of rate of charge melting; reduced heat losses with exhaust gases, increased production output; efficient utilization of fuel. 4 cl, 1 dwg
