FIELD: compositions and methods of inhibition corrosion protection of metals, iron alloys for example brought in contact with fluid medium or hydrocarbon, alcohol or aqueous fluid medium by use of mercaptoalcohols. SUBSTANCE: proposed composition contains mercaptoalcohol of the following formula: n-R-(OH)m, where R is non-branched, branched, cyclic or heterocyclic alkylene, arylene, alkylarylene, aryl- alkylene or hydrocarbon functional group containing 1 to 30 atoms of carbon; each second and third atom changes from 1 to 3 and heteratom in heterocyclic group of available substituent is selected from group containing N, O, S and P; mercaptoalcohols include 2-mercaptoethanol, 2-mercaptopropanol, 1-mercapto-2-propanol and 2-mercaptobutanol because they are soluble in many fluid media. Proposed corrosion inhibitors enhance protection against common and localized corrosion, especially under conditions of high shear and high rate of flow.
