FIELD: radio engineering; data coding for expanding coded data format. SUBSTANCE: when codes of old and new standards are entered in same record medium, old-standard signals are desirable to be reproduced by reproducing device corresponding to old standard and at the same time both types of signals could be reproduced by reproduction device corresponding to new standard to avoid reduction in signal quality. To this end second coding circuit encodes signals of channel reproduced by reproduction device corresponding to old signal in case multichannel signals are recorded by frames whose size cannot be adjusted while first coding circuit encodes signals of channel reproduced by reproduction device corresponding to old standard having smaller number of bits than their maximum number that can be allocated to such frame. Code chain shaping circuit orders code chain encoded by second coding circuit in record frame skip areas provided by encoding procedures of first coding circuit. In this way audio signals of high compression ratio can be coded without essential worsening of psycho-acoustic quality of sound.
