FIELD: cracking catalysts. SUBSTANCE: preparation of catalyst comprises mixing water suspension of Na-form zeolite Y with (i) alumina aqueous suspension with following particle size distribution: below 20 mcm 100%, below 10 mcm at least 90%, and below 4 mcm at least 40%; and (ii) sodium silicate and aluminum sulfate solutions. Catalyst granules are then formed in column with mineral oil. Granules are activated by ammonium sulfate or nitrate and then by mixed rare-earth element nitrates, washed to remove salts, dried, and calcined under atmosphere of flue gases and water steam, provided that mixture of rare-earth element nitrates contains no more than 20% ammonium nitrate and cerium oxide no more than 2.5%, and calcination of catalyst is carried out with 18-30 vol % of water vapors in atmosphere. EFFECT: increased strength of catalyst (above 15 kg/ball), increased catalytic activity, and reduced shrinkage and splitting of catalyst. 2 tbl, 8 ex
