FIELD: composites. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to manufacturing high-absorbency composite sheet materials essentially constituted by fibrous web substrate, high-absorbency polymer, and binder to join both named components. Substrate is a free (not yet knitted) web whose fibers are essentially not joined with each other. Polymer with binder are dispersed in a liquid system containing aqueous medium and not absorbable by polymer. This liquid system is added to substrate to give composite web, which is freed of liquid contained therein to ensure simultaneously proceeding process wherein polymer is fixed on web substrate and fibers of substrate are joined together. Resulting material preferably consists of free web (A), high-absorbency polymer (B), and binding component (C), ratio of polymer (B) to all composite material is 50% or higher meeting following formula: [B/(A+B+C)] x 100 ≥ 50%. In still more preferable embodiment of invention dealing with analogous material also containing A-C components, following formula is applicable: [B/(B+C)] x 100%. Method according to invention allows one to manufacture nonwoven material, filling the latter with high-absorbency polymer, and essentially simultaneously performing fixation structure of composite material. During these operations, no dust is formed and no polymer particles get into absorbing element. Principal properties of nonwoven material as well as substrate are preserved to a considerable degree whereas resulting composite sheet material fulfill all its three functions: support, distribution, and fixation of high-absorbency polymer. The need of transporting wet with voluminous loose structure is also eliminated so that transport and handling operation are less expensive. EFFECT: improved properties of material and reduced price cost. 30 cl, 7 dwg
