AMMUNITION Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

FIELD: ammunition (cartridges) for firearm mainly rifled and smoothbore artillery and small arms weapon. SUBSTANCE: the ammunition has a shell, case, container with a propellant charge and a device for initiation of the latter. The container has an area of perforation of the front face wall facing the shell bottom in the form of a great number of longitudinally oriented through holes. At least the walls of the perforation holes are made of material with a high erosion under the action of high-temperature gas flows, with provision of an intensive increase of the diameter of the perforation holes in the process of outflow of the combustion products of the propellant charge through them. The maximum effect is attained at a ratio of the thickness of the front end face wall of the container in the area of its perforation to the diameter of the perforation holes within 4 to 6, optimally-5. At least part of the front end face wall of the container, completely including the perforation area, may be made in the form of a separate component fastened in the remaining part of the container. In particular, the whole container or the area of perforation of its front end face wall may be made of titanium or its alloys. A modification is provided with making of the perforation of the front end face wall of the container in the form of bushes built in the area of perforation. In this case only these bushes are made of material with a high erosion. EFFECT: improved operating characteristics of the ammunition. 5 cl, 6 dwg
