FIELD: polymerization processes. SUBSTANCE: water-soluble polymeric cationite is prepared via polymerization of dimethyldiallylammonium chloride in presence of free radical initiator added in amounts 0.1 to 1.0% of the weight of monomer, said free radical initiator being first potassium or ammonium persulfate (to residual content of monomer in reaction mixture 8-20 wt %) and then hydrogen peroxide. Water-soluble polymeric cationite can alternatively be prepared via polymerization of dimethyldiallylammonium chloride conducted in presence of acetone-hydrogen peroxide adduct (1-2):1. EFFECT: reduced polymerization time, enabled controlling viscosity of product, avoided formation of secondary initiator degradation impurities, and enlarged choice of initiators. 2 cl, 12 ex
