METHOD OF FORMING PROTECTIVE SKULL IN BLAST FURNACE Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

Abstract RU 2223331 C1

FIELD: ferrous metallurgy; blast furnace processes; cast iron melting in blast furnaces. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes introduction of titanium-containing material into blast furnace burden as titanium-containing skull-forming additive; oxides, carbo-nitrides and metal riddlings of ferro-vanadium process may be used as titanium- containing material. Delivery of skull-forming additive is carried out according to results of lining temperature monitoring at level of hearth- and-bottom joint. At positive deviation of temperature trend from preset level exceeding 10 C, metallic concentrate in the amount of 1.5-3.0% of mass of iron ore burden is loaded in narrow peripheral ring bounded by radii of 0.7-0.9 of furnace top radius. For local protection of hearth lining, its temperature is monitored by sectors of hearth at maximum temperature and at deviation exceeding 15 C from average temperature over circumference, metallic concentrate is loaded regularly into peripheral segment by batches equal to 0.1-0.25 of batch of iron ore burden; peripheral segment is bounded by radii of 0.7-0.9 of furnace top radius in sector located above hearth at maximum lining temperature. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency; increased campaign of furnace. 3 cl, 2 ex
