FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: invention refers to measurement of parameters during nondestructive contactless diagnostics of thickness of walls and loss of metal in ferromagnetic objects of technosphere, including those located under ground, preferably, of steel tanks, reservoirs and pipe-lines. Value of parameters of magnetic field of the Earth is measured near object of technosphere at least in two points. Distance between these points is measured. Relation of measured values of parameter to value of same parameter of non-distorted magnetic field of the Earth is computed. Thickness of walls and losses of metal are established on basis of obtained data. Vertical or horizontal components or full intensity are measured in the capacity of parameter of magnetic field.
