FIELD: biochemistry, medicine, oncology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry of biologically active compounds, namely, to the improved method for preparing derivative of hematoporphyrin that is used as a photosensitizing agent for photodynamic therapy in malignant neoplasms. Invention describes method for preparing derivative of hematoporphyrin that involves treatment of hemin with 50% solution of hydrogen bromide in acetic acid, dilution of prepared solution with acetic acid, addition of sodium acetate and water and isolation of hematoporphyrine diacetate. The latter is suspended in water without preliminary drying, treated with 0.1-0.2 N alkali solution that is added by drops for 10-20 min at stirring and pH value 12.5, not above. Then reaction mass is stirred additionally for 30-60 min and acetic acid is added to pH 4-5 followed by isolation of the end product.
