FIELD: petrochemical process catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalyst is supported by sulfated alumina with 0.01-1% sulfate groups and 0.35-1.6% chlorine and contains 0.2-0.6% platinum, 0.2-0.6% rhenium, and 0.6-2.5% chlorine (including that contained in carrier), and carrier (the balance). Catalyst is prepared by treating alumina with solution containing sulfuric acid or ammonium sulfate in amount 0.01-1.0% on calculation for sulfate group and compound containing chloride ion in amount 0.35-2.5% on calculation for chlorine of the weight of carrier, after which wet carrier is impregnated with solution containing chloroplatinic and rhenium acids. Alternatively, aluminum hydroxide is impregnated with solution containing sulfuric acid and/or ammonium sulfate in amount 0.01-1.0% on calculation for sulfate group and compound containing chloride ion in amount 0.35-1.8% of the weight of carrier, after which material is dried, calcined, and impregnated with chloroplatinic and rhenium acid solution. Calcined carrier containing sulfate group and chlorine is treated with chloroplatinic and rhenium acid solution, where total amount of chlorine in all treatments must not exceed 2,5% of the weight of carrier. Chlorine-containing compound is aqueous hydrochloric acid, titanium trichloride, zirconium(IV) chloroxide, or their mixtures.
