FIELD: monitoring of upper layers of ground to detect various objects. SUBSTANCE: technique calls for irradiation of ground surface by collimated beam of low- energy gamma quanta ( (Eγ ≅=50-8- keV ) and for detection of reflected radiation. Radioactive isotope of titanium-44 displaying low class of hazard with half-decay period of 47.3 year and radiation energy of 67.8 and 78.3 keV ( relative intensities of 92 and 98% correspondingly ) is utilized as radiation source. Three or more detectors spaced apart are employed to compensate in wide range for height variations of system " source-detector " above radiating medium and for change of readings of detector caused it. Value measured with given height is reduced to selected standard height for same detection coordinate with the use of correction function found beforehand and depending on relation of recorded values for different coordinates.
