FIELD: processing bismuth-containing materials for producing powdered bismuth. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of preparing solution of bismuth compound in mineral acid; depositing bismuth compound from solution; washing it and reducing separated bismuth compound to metal. According to invention deposition of bismuth compound is realized with use of monocarboxylic acid at least with six C atoms at molar relation of acid and bismuth equal to 1 - 3 and pH of solution 0 - 2 for producing monocarboxylate of bismuth. Washing is realized by means of solution of mineral acid at pH of solution 0 - 2. Reduction of bismuth monocarboxylate to metal is realized by calcining at temperature 120 - 270 C in inert atmosphere or at presence of high temperature boiling organic dissolver. Method provides manufacture of products having higher purity due to less quantity of additive metals and grain size 0.03 - 3.0 micrometers. EFFECT: simplified process. 2 cl, 1 tbl, 6 ex
