FIELD: automatics, computer engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention can find use in control over paint sprayers of moving flat articles of unspecified configuration in various branches of industry, specifically, in leather and foot-wear and automotive industries. According to method flat object moves through zone of strip with N sensors of presence of flat object that is placed perpendicular to movement of object, zone of transport delay and zone of displacement of paint sprayer. Step pulse of path are formed. Information is read from N sensors of presence of flat object in each step, N-digit unitary position codes of two coordinates of outline of flat object in corresponding section are established, they are converted to K-digit binary code and entered into storage. After expiry of transport delay K-digit binary codes are compared with K-digit binary codes of position of paint sprayer. Drive of feed of paint is switched on when its code matches code of second coordinate while paint sprayer moves in forward direction, in backward movement of paint sprayer drive of feed of paint is switched on and off in reverse sequence.
