FIELD: electrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: invention, in particular, relates to powders for filling electrode cells of nickel accumulators of electrochemical elements as well as to catalyst production technology. Fine solid solutions of nickel and cobalt hydroxides are prepared via reaction of eutectic mixture of nickel and cobalt nitrates taken at ratio from 30:1 to 10: 1 with ammonium hydroxide at reactants' feeding rate from 1 to 50 mole/min and temporal temperature gradient up to 20oC/sec. Resulting solid solution is characterized by trigonal structure, cobalt hydroxide content up to 10 wt %, and high specific surface: up to 25×103 sq.cm/g. EFFECT: provided principally new technology for preparation of electrochemically active nickel hydroxide with regulated cobalt hydroxide additive in the form of fine grains of solid solution. 1 tbl
