FIELD: metallurgy; production of cathodes for electrolysis cells for production of aluminum. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes introduction of material of carbon cathode substrate into mold and application of layer of heat- resistance on this substrate; material of carbon substrate is subjected to riffling and at least one-layer of composite heat-resistant material containing boride of metal is applied over it, medium of mold is compacted to configuration of cathode and semi-finished product is roasted.
