FIELD: aluminum production. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to applying refractory borides on components of aluminum production electrolytic cells, in particular, on carbon cathodes. For that, carbon-containing cell components for production of aluminum from aluminum oxide dissolved in cryolite solution are coated with refractory borides from suspension consisting of preliminarily prepared refractory boride particles in colloid carrier. Coating is dried and heated to be strengthened.
