FIELD: metallurgy, inorganic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for preparing highly pure niobium nitride powder and making articles with high-strength and stability in corrosion media. Nitriding reaction of ferroniobium powder is carried out at high temperature and acid leaching is carried out under the following conditions: the parent raw is ferroniobium with the content of niobium 50-70% that is ground to powder with particle size 0.1 mm, not above. Then powder is placed in nitrogen atmosphere with purity 99.0-99.99% under pressure 0.2-20 MPa. Nitride formation reaction is initiated by local technique and nitriding reaction is carried out in regime of in layers combustion followed by additional nitriding in regime of the volume combustion for 0.1-0.5 h under pressure 0.12-10 MPa. The prepared semi-product (nitrated ferroniobium) is ground and treated with 15-25% hydrochloric acid for 1 h, washed out with water and dried.
