FIELD: manufacture of vacuum devices as well as peak- and subpeak-second image intensifiers operating in high-speed photography mode. SUBSTANCE: time-analyzing image intensifier has photocathode carrying flat substrate, accelerating electrode, aperture diaphragm with round central bore, deflecting yoke, and recording target, all enclosed in vacuum envelope. Arranged between accelerating electrode and deflecting yoke outside vacuum envelope is focusing system in the form of axisymmetrical armored magnetic lens having nonmagnetic gap. Accelerating electrode and target are made in the form of spherical segments whose tops and centers are disposed on intensifier axis so that ratio of distance between center of curvature of accelerating electrode and intermediate plane of magnetic-lens nonmagnetic gap to distance between accelerating electrode and intermediate plane of magnetic-lens nonmagnetic gap is 2 : 3, ratio of distance between center of curvature of target and intermediate plane of magnetic-lens nonmagnetic gap to distance between top of target and plane of magnetic- lens nonmagnetic gap is 1 : 2, and that aperture diaphragm is installed in intermediate plane of nonmagnetic gap.
