FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electronic engineering and can be used in electron-optical image converters (EOIC) designed for converting and amplifying image brightness in different spectral ranges, for detecting high-speed processes in photochronographic detection mode with picosecond time resolution. The time-analysing electron-optical image converter has on one optical axis a photocathode of length 1, lying on a metal substrate, and an accelerating electrode (AE) and a focusing electrode (FE) made in form of surfaces of hollow cylinders, an anode, an image scanning unit and a screen. There is also a metallic cathode head electrically connected to the flat photocathode and surrounding it, where the said cathode head is in form of a hollow cylinder of diametre D ∈ [1.51, 41] and height H ∈ [L/3, L + Δ], where L is the distance from the photocathode to the input cylinder of the acceleration electrode, Δ is the overlap value of the cathode head and the input cylinder of the acceleration electrode. The photocathode is flat and the acceleration electrode is made from n (n>3) hollow cylinders of diametre Di and height Hi, i=1,2,…,n, connected by rings, with ratios between Di and Hi, together with potentials Uae, Ufe, and Ua, creating the selected monotonous, deceleration or intermediate operation mode of the electron-optical image converter.

EFFECT: simple design, increased operational reliability with increase in quality of the image of the converter at the same time, considerable widening of the field of use.
