FIELD: petrochemical processes and catalysts. SUBSTANCE: method comprises desulfurization of catalyst in contact with gas containing less than 40 vol.% hydrogen and at least one of components from the group including nitrogen, methane, and ethane under conditions appropriate for formation of hydrogen sulfide, after which catalyst is brought into contact with oxygen-containing gas to burn out coke. Catalyst may further contain one or more of metals from the group including Fem Ca, Mg, and alkali-earth metals.
