FIELD: physical and technological processes of energy production and conversion. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes focusing of slow linear neutron flux onto target. Target chosen for the purpose is of calibrated volume and calibrated shape. Linear neutron flux with preset power characteristics and flux density is focused onto target material in reactor and high-density avalanche neutron flux is produced in material structure. Its density should be high enough to develop and maintain continuous chain reaction due to critical neutron density preset in this way having great effective section of neutron capture by fissionable material nuclei. Then these neutrons are used to afford transfer of nuclear reaction into thermonuclear reaction at continuous growth of neutron density in calibrated volume of reactor target.
