FIELD: measurement of radioactivity of objects, remote detection of radiation discharges into atmosphere. SUBSTANCE: invention can also be employed to monitor state of surface atmospheric layer above various radioactive objects, for example, atomic power stations, nuclear fuel and radioactive waste storages, vehicles with nuclear reactors. Technical result of invention consists in development of effective process of detection of ionizing radiation sources under conditions of radio interference, which parameters correspond to radiation characteristics emerging under action of ionizing radiation sources on humid air. Process of detection of ionizing radiation source consists in radar action on surface atmospheric layer. Location is conducted with the use of electromagnetic signals on generation frequencies of radiations of formed free atoms of hydrogen and formed molecules of hydroxide OH with relative humidity of surface atmospheric air under 60%. Width of radiation line for atomic hydrogen amounts to 150 kHz or under and for hydroxide OH not more than 900 kHz. Presence of ionizing radiation source is recorded by value of signal absorption.
