FIELD: physics; navigation.

SUBSTANCE: proposed invention relates to remote monitoring radioactive contamination of an area using lidar. The lidar method for remote monitoring radioactive contamination of an area is based on probing the surface layer of the atmosphere with pulsed laser radiation and involves determination of the ratio of intensity of Stokes and anti-Stokes components in the Raman spectrum of the of the probing radiation. Value of this ratio is used for remote determination of the spatial configuration of zones of radioactive contamination of the area with given radiation levels.

EFFECT: shorter radiation detection time.
