FIELD: electrical engineering; rail-moving vehicles; traction drives of locomotives.
SUBSTANCE: proposed electric drive has electric motor incorporating stator main circular winding and starting arc winding, motor speed transducer, and control system that has static frequency converter with off-line inverter, converter control unit with speed transducer feedback, and winding selector switch electrically connected to static frequency converter, main circular and starting arc windings, and to converter control unit. Electric drive is provided with at least one auxiliary stator arc winding connected to selector switch; frequency control range of motor depends on general number of stator windings, their central angles, and pole pair number.
EFFECT: reduced supply voltage frequency control range causing enhanced reliability of motor.
