FIELD: powder metallurgy, namely production of iron powders by reduction of iron - containing raw material such as natural ores.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of heating iron containing raw material at presence of solid reducing agent in non-mixing layers until 110-1200 C; soaking at such temperature until formation of sponge iron; cooling it, breaking, screening, magnetically separating non-metallic inclusions; hydrogen annealing at 850-950C for 1.5 - 2 hours; disintegrating and sorting; using martite ore as iron-containing raw material; at breaking, dispersing, disintegrating and sorting additionally separating non-metallic inclusions by aspiration at speed of air flow 0.1 - 0.3 m/s.
EFFECT: simplified process for producing iron powder with improved quality.
