SUBSTANCE: proposed 2p = 4-pole, m = 9-phase loop winding distinguished by improved mmf content and reduced differential dissipation factor σd and placed in z = 54 slots at fractional number of slots per pole per phase q = z/2m + b + 0.5 has 2pm alternating (b + 1) and b coil groups with concentric coils at m = 9 phases, m' = 2m = 18 phase belts, q = 1.5 and b = 1; winding has 36 coil groups numbered 1G through 36G at slot pitch ym = 12, 10, and turn number wk, (1 - x)wk for odd-numbered groups, y'm = 11c (1 + x)wk turns for even-numbered groups. Groups 1G, -10G, 19G, and -28G are series-connected in first phase and group numbers of each next phase are alternating at interval of two groups relative to first-phase groups, where 2wk is number of turns in each slot, x = 0.30, and minus sign means cumulative connection in phase for each group number.
EFFECT: improved harmonic mmf content and reduced differential dissipation factor.
