BANDAGED ADAPTIVE PISTON-SEPARATOR AND DEVICE FOR FITTING IT IN PIPE LINE Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

FIELD: cleaning inner cavities of pipe lines; separation of different liquids; forcing-out air and removal of water from pipe lines during hydraulic tests.

SUBSTANCE: piston has cylindrical body with leading edge in form of truncated cone manufactured from foamed plastic. Foamed plastic rings are formed on surface of body at the beginning, in the middle and at the end, thus forming zigzag strip. Bottom of body and leading edge are coated with lining made from foamed plastic in form of elongated lobes narrowing towards body axis; longer sides of said lobes are secured to body and other side partially overlaps adjacent lobe. Diameter of piston in free state exceeds diameter of pipe line by interference "У". Interference "У", width of strip "S", diameter of body "Д" and number of breaks "n" are related by the following relationship: У≤[(πД-nS)/π]. Device for fitting the piston in pipe line includes envelope whose diameter exceeds diameter of piston-separator at guaranteed clearance and length is equal to length of piston-separator made from flexible thin material possessing anti-friction properties; device includes also shafts secured to envelope over generatrices, shield with central hole and radial slots according to number of shafts and slide blocks movable fitted in them. Shafts are mounted in said slide blocks for axial motion; ends of these shafts are provided with ratchet mechanisms connected with slide blocks. Ends of shafts have flats for wrench and deflectors in form of extended rod having form of acute-angled triangle in section; it is secured for swinging of triangle base; base for mounting shield and detachable cover is coaxial relative to envelope.

EFFECT: enhanced wear resistance of piston due to compensation for wear of friction parts; increased area of contact of piston with surface of pipe line due to piston adaptivity.
