FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for preparing terpenophenols that are used broadly in different branches of industry as antioxidants and also as parent components in synthesis of surface-active substances and fragrant substances. Method involves ortho-selective alkylation of phenols with camphene as terpene at heating in the presence of organo-aluminum compounds as a catalyst and alkylation is carried out at 160-190 C. As the parent phenol monatomic or diatomic phenols are used in the molar ratio phenol to camphene = (1-2):(1-2). Organo-aluminum compound is taken among aluminum phenoxides or alkoxides of non-symmetric (mixed) or symmetric (complete) type in the amount 0.5-1 wt.-% of aluminum to mass of the parent phenol. Method involves preferable using aluminum phenoxide as non-derivative of the parent phenol. Invention provides improving conversion of camphene up to 100% with the content of ortho-terpenophenols 80-98%.
