FIELD: processes and apparatuses for working graphite parts, namely forming openings in fired graphite parts, for example in anodes of aluminum cells.
SUBSTANCE: apparatus includes positioning mechanism with unit for positioning and fixing graphite part after firing it and working station at least with one spindle designed for rotation and having working tool with one or several cutting members. Spindle is mounted for rotation around horizontal axis and for movement in three mutually normal directions in such a way that spindle rotation axis may perform orbit motion during working process. Working tool is protected by means of jacket that may have suction device. Method for making openings for connection sleeves in graphite parts comprises steps of forming openings after shaping and firing part by means of cutting members mounted with possibility of rotation around axis that may move along curvilinear path at working process.
EFFECT: possibility for forming precise openings at minimum wear of equipment.
