METHOD FOR COMBINED PREPARING 1,1,3-TRIALKYL-1,5-PENTANEDIOLS AND 1,1,4-TRIALKYL-1,5-PENTANEDIOLS Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a new method for the combined preparing 1,1,3-trialkyl-1,5-pentanediols of the formula(1):

and 1,1,4-trialkyl-1,5-pentanediols of the formula (2):

wherein values R, R¹ and R² in formulas (1) and (2) are similar and taken among R that means n-C₄H₉, n-C₆H₁₃; R¹ means CH₃, C₂H₅; R² means C₂H₅, n-C₄H₉. Method involves interaction of α-olefin of the general formula: wherein R means n-C₄H₉, n-C₆H₁₃ in atmosphere of inert gas with triethylaluminum in the presence of zirconacene dichloride Cp₂ZrCl₂ as a catalyst in the following mole ratio of components: : AlEt₃ : Cp₂ZrCl₂ = 10:(10-14):(0.3-0.7), respectively, at room temperature. Then reaction mixture is cooled, copper monochloride is added as a catalyst and ketone of the formula: R¹C(O)R² is added also wherein R¹ means CH₃, C₂H₅; R² means C₂H₅, n-C₄H₉ in the mole ratio CuCl : R¹C(O)R² = (0.8-1.2):(10-14), respectively, then mixture is stirred at room temperature followed by oxidation of reaction mass and its hydrolysis. Method provides preparing end products with total yield 42-64%.
