FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: heavy-current vacuum circuit breaker, primarily generator one, has at least two vacuum arc-control chambers in each pole. Connected in series with each vacuum arc-control chamber is resistor whose rating is found from expression L/0.3top ≤ R ≤ 20r, where L is current circuit inductance including inductance of vacuum arc-control chamber at closed contacts; r is active resistance of vacuum arc-control chamber at closed contacts; top is inherent operating time of vacuum circuit breaker.

EFFECT: enhanced short-circuit currents handled by circuit breaker during on- and off-operations.
