SELF-STEERING ANTENNA ARRAY Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

Abstract RU 2236732 C2

FIELD: antenna engineering; radio systems of various applications.

SUBSTANCE: assessed value of gain in signal-to-noise ratio due to rejection of channels amounts to about N/N - M, where N is quantity of antennas (receiving channels); M is quantity of rejected channels. Self-steering antenna array has N antennas 1, array-type diagram-forming circuit 2 with N inputs and N outputs, N-channel adder 3 whose output is used as that of self-steering antenna array, and N phase-locked loop circuits 4 with common heterodyne 15 and common reference-signal generator 16; antennas are connected to respective inputs of diagram-forming circuit each of whose outputs is connected to input of respective PLL circuit that also functions as input of respective first mixer; output of each PLL circuit that functions at the same time as output of respective first adder is connected to respective input of N-channel adder; each PLL circuit has integrator 13, voltage-controlled generator 14, and series-connected first mixer 5, second mixer 6, first band filter 7, signal spectrum convolution device 8 incorporating series-connected m-factor frequency multiplier 9, second band filter 10, and m-ratio frequency divider 11; it also has phase detector 12 whose output is connected through series-connected integrator and voltage-controlled generator to second input of first mixer; second input of each phase detector is connected to output of common reference voltage generator; novelty is introduction of N control switches 17 inserted in series with first mixer output and respective input of N-channel mixer; N first amplitude detectors 18, input of each of them being connected in parallel with input of respective switch and with output of first mixer; N comparators 19, first input of each of them being connected to output of respective first amplitude detector and output, to control input of respective switch; 2N-ratio power splitter whose output is connected to second inputs of comparators; and second amplitude detector 21 whose input is connected in parallel with output of N-channel adder and output, with input of 2N-ratio power splitter, where m is positional representation of phase-keyed signal.

EFFECT: enhanced noise immunity of antenna array (signal-to-noise ratio in antenna load) due to rejection of channels whose signal level is below threshold value.
