FIELD: thermonuclear physics; experimental nuclear physics, solid-state and crystal physics, nuclear power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method for encouraging and controlling thermonuclear fusion processes includes use of effect of nuclear particle tunneling through Coulomb barrier and production of opposing accelerated light-atom nuclei or ion beams striking the target, such as hydrogen, helium, and lithium isotope beams. In the process opposing accelerated nuclei beams are channeled inside this tunnel so that collision of these nuclei takes place on channeling path. Used as target are specific media having ordered internal structure and focusing property, such as crystals.
EFFECT: enlarged functional capabilities in organizing fusion reactions of particles channeled in crystal.
