FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: proposed turbocharged internal combustion engine is furnished with additional device to convert energy of exhaust gases which gives its power to engine crankshaft to increase efficiency. Device for converting energy of exhaust gases contains steam generator 3 and steam turbine set 4 with steam turbine 9 connected with crankshaft 20 of engine 2. Steam generator 3 has boiler 6 through which passes flow of exhaust gases from turbocompressor 1 and from which, at least main part of steam is delivered into steam turbine 9. Steam turbine set 4 includes condenser 10 and cooling tower 16 used to increase temperature differential used in steam turbine 9. Steam generator 3 and steam turbine set 4 are connected with closed water circulation circuit. Heat removed from engine 2 is used at supply of condensate from condenser 10 into drinking water vessel of water circulation circuit. In proposed method of operation of internal combustion engine, energy of losses of exhaust gases is used to create additional power. For thus purpose, from mass flow getting out of turbocompressor 1, energy is taken by steam generator 3 and, at least predominant part of created steam, is supplied to steam turbine set 4 and power, thus created, is transmitted to crankshaft of 20 of engine 2.
EFFECT: increased efficiency without affecting operation reliability.
