METHOD FOR PREDICTING REGENERATION OF BONY TISSUE Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

FIELD: medicine, traumatology, orthopedics.

SUBSTANCE: one should study mineral density of bony tissue at different periods: before operation, 1.5 mo and 4.5 mo after operation. For this purpose a patient should be placed in front of a device, for example, densitometer in sitting position. One should measure mineral density of bony tissue (BTMD) successively in left and right plantar bone and in distal metaphyses of left and right radius, and at availability of external fixation apparatus or gypsum splint on shin or forearm one should conduct 3 measurements. Obtained BTMD values should be summed up to determine the index by their average value considered to be an initial one. Then comes densitometric BTMD studying 1.5 mo after operation to similarly calculate the index. At increased index value by more than 1% against initial value one should detect favorable prediction of bony tissue regeneration, in other cases prediction is considered to be unfavorable.

EFFECT: higher objectivity of prediction.
