FIELD: refractory materials.

SUBSTANCE: invention, in particular, relates to manufacturing refractory materials for leaning metallurgical assemblies. Method of invention envisages diluting ethylene glycol with water, mixing ground fine-grain crystalline quartzite and graphite, powdered polymeric phenol binder, ethylene glycol aqueous solution with density 1.03-1.5 g/cm3 in mixer; forming products on presses, and drying provided that from 1/2 to 2/3 parts of aqueous ethylene glycol solution is added to quartzite fraction up to 3.2 mm with moisture level up to 1%, after which powder-like phenol-type binder and remaining 1/2 to 1/3 part of volume of ethylene glycol solution are added. Resulting mass is stirred for 3-6 min and, after achievement of homogenous moistening of quartzite, ground graphite, and powdered phenol binder with ethylene glycol solution, thus prepared mass is heated to powder-like phenol binder gelation temperature and homogenized for 0.5 to 10 h at 20-35оС. Formation of products is accomplished on friction presses until density of crude attains 2.27-2.29 g/cm3. Freshly formed articles are hold under natural conditions and then thermally treated in tunnel driers at powder-like phenol binder polymerization temperature. Working surface of dried articles is thermally treated under inert gas atmosphere or by metal melt at temperature 1550-1650оС to form silicon carbide in boundary lining layer.

EFFECT: increased chemical resistance to melt metal and to oxidation and increased strength of freshly formed refractory articles.
