METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DIRECT DRILLING OF GRASS SEEDS Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

FIELD: agriculture.

SUBSTANCE: method involves mellowing soil of strip and forming drill furrow; drilling grass seeds into furrow; embedding and covering furrow; before performing said operations, cutting out sod layer in strip of soil; turning and removing said layer from soil strip; dividing cut out sod layer into two equal parts and laying onto untilled spacing along boundary zones of strip; next year after seeding operation, grinding partly decomposed sod fragments removed from soil strip. Apparatus has frame, seed hopper with seeding units, seed guides, seeding sections pivotally connected with vertical tine and including shanks, carrier-covering rollers and covering devices. Double-sided hoe-moldboard is positioned forward of each seeding section on tine fixed on frame. Lower undercutting part of hoe-moldboard corresponds to parameters of high-speed plow-bottom surface and upper turning part is made in the form of helical turning surface. Slitter knife is arranged rearward of tine of hoe-moldboard for displacement in vertical plane within required seed embedding depth range. Spring-loaded compacting rollers are positioned rearward of each hoe-moldboard in zone of laying of cut out sod strips and vertical knives are positioned forward of each hoe-moldboard, with space between outer knives corresponding to soil strip tillage width. Third knife is positioned in the middle of tillage strip.

EFFECT: reduced power consumption for direct grass seeding operation, increased quality of preparing seeding furrow, improved uniformity of grass seed embedding depth and improved adaptation of plants.
