BUILDING METHOD FOR GABION SLOPE STABILIZING STRUCTURE Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

FIELD: hydraulic engineering, particularly for stabilizing slopes.

SUBSTANCE: method for laying gabions filled with stones on base along river-bed bank involves preparing base on bank slope; unwinding netting from rolls; placing overlapped netting rows across flow direction; connecting netting rows in overlapped areas by means of twisting tool to form integral mat; placing stone row in forms made as parabolic cylinders and oriented in flow direction and across flow direction; removing forms and successively covering stone row with netting unwinding from roll in flow direction and across flow direction so that stones are enclosed by netting; connecting above netting to netting mat by connection wires to form structure of parabolic cylinders and flexible apron made of lower horizontal netting edge. Parabolic cylinder base is described by the following equation: Y=(4hg/Bg)X2, where X and Y are abscissa and ordinate of parabolic cylinder base, Bg and hg - gabion width and height, wherein Bg = (2 - 4)hg. Number of parabolic cylinder rows may be more than one and ridges of upper parabolic cylinder row are offset relative that of lower parabolic cylinder row to which parabolic cylinder of upper row are connected. Space between parabolic cylinders may be filled with stone fill and at least partly with concrete. When above spaces are fully filled with concrete structural functional joints are made along parabolic cylinder ridges. Connection wires are secured by twisting thereof with the use of twisting tool comprising rod with two orifices made at one end thereof and arm fixedly connected to another rod end and located perpendicular to rod.

EFFECT: increased efficiency and reliability of river bank protection against erosion, increased service life of stabilizing structure.
