FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engine; road vehicles.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes preparation of fuel-air mixture, compression, combustion and expansion of fuel-air mixture in working cylinder according to which portion of water or other steam-generating liquid is delivered at beginning of process of compression into closed space formed by cylinder and cavity on adjoining side surface of piston to seal contact surfaces of cylinder-piston pair and subsequent utilization of energy of steam-gas mixture. Free-piston engine of two-circuit design contains working cylinder with opposite pistons rigidly connected with plungers of power hydraulic pumps, piston movement synchronizer, air supply, exhaust and liquid or gaseous fuel supply systems, hydraulic power motor to drive load, mechanism to set engine for realization o working cycle at stable parameters and to regulate power by changing duration of pauses between cycles, high-pressure and low-pressure hydraulic accumulators, working liquid hydraulic motor-flow rate meter simultaneously playing part of drive of engine auxiliaries, valves, fuel and hydraulic main lines and reservoirs, system to feed water or other evaporating liquid into sealing spaces of cylinder-piston pair and system to utilize energy of exhaust steam-gas mixture.

EFFECT: reduced fuel consumption, improved ecological characteristics of automobile internal combustion engine by dispensing with conventional lubrication and cooling systems.
