FIELD: protection of pipes or pipe fittings against corrosion or incrustation, particularly oil-and-gas pipelines.
SUBSTANCE: method based on empirical combination of ultimate strength of pipeline wall material and geometrical pipeline and surface defect parameters involves measuring geometrical pipeline and surface defect parameters in local defect area; comparing current pipeline working pressure with collapsing pressure which is predetermined from a given mathematical relation; making decision on possibility of further pipeline operation, on working pressure reduction or on said pipeline section repairing on the base of above comparison. Mathematical relation includes strength and geometrical pipeline parameters and parameters of pipeline defect depending on defect type.
EFFECT: increased pipeline reliability.
