UNIT FOR SEPARATING NUCLEAR REACTOR FUEL ASSEMBLIES Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

FIELD: nuclear power engineering.

SUBSTANCE: proposed unit has housing with cover, clamping device, ampoule, gate valve, cutting machine tool, and intermediate head fastening device. Unit is also provided with intermediate head positioning device pre-mounted in unit grip. Intermediate head fastening device is made in the form of compressing mechanism. Clamping device is provided with additional fastening mechanism affording fixation of spent fuel assembly on other end of cutting line; intermediate head fastening device is combined with its positioning device; grip of the latter is provided with revolving cams and disposed in axially movable casing having conical inner surface at end engageable with cams. Intermediate head fastening device may be combined with clamping device and may be mounted on clamping surfaces; in addition cutting machine tool is mounted on side wall of housing for horizontal reciprocation in housing guides. Gate valve has hole and is disposed in cover for reciprocating in guides. Clamping device is made in the form of self-aligning vice, and grip is provided with holes accommodating balls engageable with battens disposed in longitudinal slots of grip between cams and secured on casing.

EFFECT: reduced space requirement, enhanced reliability, safety, and capacity of unit due to reduced number of operations and equipment rearrangement procedures.
