METHOD AND DEVICE FOR REPAIRING MOTOR EVACUATION FUNCTION OF THE GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

Abstract RU 2240842 C2

FIELD: medicine; medical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: method involves introducing probe with electrodes of different polarity into the gastrointestinal tract followed by electric stimulation with electric current pulses on the background of gastric and intestinal contents suction. The proximal electrode or electrode group of positive polarity is set in one of or in both pace-maker stomach zones located in subcardial fundic and antropyloric division. The distal one or group thereof of the positive polarity is set in the vicinity of Vater papilla in pace-maker zone of small intestine or in the initial segment of the jejunum with gastrojejunal anastomosis having been applied. Negative electrode or group thereof is mounted between the zones the positive electrodes are arranged. Electrostimulation sessions are given in turn using proximal and distal electrodes or groups thereof of positive polarity when a negative electrode or a group of electrodes is functioning. Proper bioelectric activity of gastrointestinal tract areas under stimulation is selectively recorded before and after active electrostimulation or in pauses between electric pulse series. Stimulation mode is adjusted on basis of data received. The device has probe having electrodes of different polarity connected to electric pulse oscillator and control unit. Probe electrodes are connectable to the apparatus for measuring bioelectric activity of gastrointestinal tract areas under stimulation.

EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness in stimulating and stabilizing peristalsis; high accuracy in selecting electrostimulation start time and mode.
