FIELD: petroleum processing and petrochemistry.
SUBSTANCE: oil feedstock stream is subjected to hydrodesulfurization wherein only insignificant amount of olefins become saturated. Process is accomplished in two stages involving interstage removal of hydrogen sulfide over pipelines to prevent formation of recombinant mercaptans. Optionally, cracked naphtha can be subjected to the same hydrodesulfurization process.
EFFECT: increased degree of desulfurization with reduced loss in olefin content.
