FIELD: production of organochlorine compounds.
SUBSTANCE: claimed method includes reaction of methanol with hydrogen chloride, contained in hydrochloric acid, to produce gas-vapor phase comprising target product and exhaust liquid phase comprising hydrochloric acid. The later is separated from other liquid products by fractionation followed by saturation with feed hydrogen chloride up to necessary concentration. Gas-vapor phase is washed with concentrated hydrochloric acid, which is recirculated to reaction with methanol. Washed gas-vapor phase is treated with feed methanol, which also is recirculated to reaction with hydrogen chloride. Target product is recovered from gas-vapor phase in form of distillate, still liquor is washed with water and recirculated, and utilized water is eliminated from process.
EFFECT: production of methyl chloride of high purity with recirculated hydrogen chloride.
