SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for preparing polyfluorochloroalkanes, namely 1,2,3,4-tetrachlorohexafluorobutane of the formula: CF₂ClCFClCFClCF₂Cl used for synthesis of perfluorobutadiene. Method is carried out by reaction of 1-iodo-1,2,2-trifluoro-1,2-dichloroethane with zinc. Process is carried out by dosing organic oxygen-containing chelate compound taken in the amount from 0.5 to 2 equivalents of amount of 1-iodo-1,2,2-trifluoro-1,2-dichloroethane used in reaction in mixture of parent reagents. The reaction temperature is from 0^oC to 45^oC. Reaction can be carried out in the absence of solvent and in medium of hydrocarbons or their halogen-derivatives, or mixture of such solvents. Method provides increasing yield and simplifying technology in preparing 1,2,3,4-tetrachlorohexafluorobutane.
